Relax all you anxious and antsy members of the "James Gang".......Casey is SAFE!!
Despite what may have been his poorest performance on "American Idol" Season 9 to date, Casey James escaped the dreaded Wednesday night cut and is now a member of The Final Four.
James appeared mildly surprised, and clearly relieved, to be pronounced safe by host Ryan Seacrest, thereby giving him a chance to rebound from a subpar performance on Tuesday's "Sinatra Night" extravaganza. Casey and Crystal Bowersox joined young crooner and top-vote-getter, Lee DeWyze, in the top 3, leaving soulful muscleman, Michael Lynche, and 17 year-old phenom, Aaron Kelly, for a drama-packed elimination.
In the end it was Kelly who was voted off the show.
Even in spite of his admitted "off week", the movie star handsome James clearly has a huge fan base and wide appeal to the viewers at home, most of whom were willing to give him a pass for struggling through a Sinatra crooning session in hopes that he might be able to soon dish out the type of bluesy rock that makes him such a popular figure on the show.
Next week the "Idol" hopefuls will be performing songs from the movies. Perhaps Casey can find some AC/DC, Bob Seger, Sammy Hagar sound tracks to use as performance material.
Lately, Idol's choice of theme nights has been somewhat of a source of confusion, staying resolutely on the softer side of music, without so much of a trace of rock n roll. With BonJovi and Daughtry scheduled to appear on Wednesday night's show, maybe a badly-needed injection of uptempo music will return this week, which should make James happy indeed.
But, for the moment, Casey James is still alive and kickin'.
