It has been said through the ages that music is the universal language, and it is spoken to us through many mediums: the radio, the TV, the trusty iPod, those great electrically-charged rock concerts, the opera, the smooth street corner a capella group, and, yes, even still through that old familiar jukebox. Music is magical. It is the splendid language of the soul. It lifts us up in times of sadness, moves us, steadies us in times of heartbreak, and causes us to aspire to greatness. Music is the soundtrack of our lives, the tie that binds our souls to God. Damien Marley, the son of the great Bob Marley, once gave a reporter a wonderful reply when asked if he felt the weight of his father's musical legacy on his shoulders.. Damien responded by saying, "Actually, I feel my father's legacy underneath my feet lifting me up to make me feel taller, rather than on my shoulders weighing me down." Young Marley's comment is indicative of the powerful uplifting force music brings to the soul of man. Slow, fast, happy, sad, relaxing, charming, melancholy, exhilarating......music underscores every emotion known to man.
This is a blog about music---all kinds of music and musical styles as well as the prominent artists who perform the craft---with a special emphasis on widely popular televised music competitions like "American Idol" and "The XFactor", shows which produce some of our finest new music talent. Because "American Idol", over time, has grown into such a cultural phenomenon, and is now well into its ninth season, a large part of the initial focus of "The Jukebox Hero" will be devoted to the entertaining, but unyieldingly controversial, TV talent show with its long line of colorful characters, memorable performances, humorous antics, and continually festering issues which undermine its true credibility, and, as some will claim, threaten its very existence. But, for all its quirkiness and intriguing subject matter, "Idol" will take up only a small portion of the overall coverage into the world of music. Here, at the "Jukebox Hero Network", we will take long langorous treks through the vast open territory of music and entertainment spanning many generations and styles, and I hope you will make the daily journey a regular part of your day.
If you love music and the assortment of unique personalities who have colored the landscape of the art, past and present, you should feel right at home. The Jukebox is jam-packed with great tunes by some of the greatest artists ever assembled, and ready to spin a countless number of hot ditties day after day after day, so come on and give us a listen. It doesn't even cost a dime to play.
So, all music fans, and jukebox heroes alike, I welcome you to my humble blog. I will make it a goal to continually provide you with interesting subject matter connected to the world of music that will enliven and enlighten, stir the imagination, make you laugh, make you growl, get you thinking, but always keep you entertained.
After all, that's what a Jukebox hero does.
